Israeli government approves ceasefire agreement, agrees to release hostages

The Israeli government has approved a ceasefire agreement to end more than a year of fighting between Israel and Hamas. The agreement will come into effect tomorrow. The Israeli cabinet has approved the agreement, which is intended to be implemented in three phases to release hostages and prisoners from Hamas.

The government has approved a plan to return the hostages, and a deal to end fighting with Hamas will take effect on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said. Under the deal, Hamas plans to release 33 hostages over the next six weeks in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinians held by Israel.

The ceasefire will initially take effect for six weeks. The Israeli government approved the agreement after six hours of negotiations. All 24 members of Netanyahu’s cabinet supported the ceasefire. The Israeli security cabinet approved the agreement on Friday, which requires two rounds of approval.
