K P Yohannan, Bishop of Believers church in Kerala, trying to close the money laundering case by paying fine. The raid conducted in the Believers church and its concerned trusts earlier this month revealed blatant violation of the Foreign Exchange Control Act. Around Rs 17 crores were seized from the Believers Church and also from various organisations under the ownership of the church. The church received donations globally in the name of Gospel for Asia. Documents of nearly 30 paper trusts were also obtained. Apart from this, benami land transactions were also conducted in different parts of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. Documents and evidence found by the Income Tax Department may be handed over to other central investigation agencies for further investigation.

The current investigation focuses on the six leaders who control the day-to-day affairs of the Believers Church. The Income Tax Department had summoned K P Yohannan to appear personally before the IT office for questioning earlier. He is reported to be in US. The notice had also asked him to hand over the documents of his foreign transactions. The IT Department had also issued notices to the officials of the church and some other account holders regarding the same. However, KP Yohannan, informed the IT officials in an unofficial notification that he is abroad and cannot attend personally.
