Bengaluru: Kannada actress Ranya Rao was arrested at the airport while attempting to smuggle gold. A total of 14.8 kg of gold was seized from her. Ranya had smuggled the gold from Dubai.
Ranya Rao is the daughter of a Karnataka DGP-rank officer. In the past 15 days, she had traveled to Dubai four times.
Interrogation of the actress is ongoing at the DRO office. She attempted to smuggle the gold by wearing jewelry and concealing it on her body.
Authorities are investigating whether any officials supported her in the smuggling operation or if they unknowingly assisted the illegal activity.
