Mandya MP and actress Sumalatha Ambarish has joined BJP. The membership was accepted in the presence of senior BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa, state president BY Vijayendra, leader of opposition R Ashoka, Karnataka election in-charge national general secretary Radha Mohandas Agarwal and former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda.
After the death of her husband Ambareesh, Sumalatha contested from Mandya constituency in 2019. Ambarish was a famous film star and an MP in Congress governments.
He entered the field as an independent candidate in the constituency which was the monopoly of Ambarish. With the support of the BJP, the then Chief Minister Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil was defeated by 1,25,876 votes.
