The NIA court in Lucknow has given a significant verdict in the Kasganj Chandan Gupta murder case. Out of the 30 accused, 28 were found guilty, while two were acquitted and given the benefit of doubt. That is, the court has now pronounced its verdict in the case of the murder of 22-year-old ABVP activist Chandan Gupta in Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh in 2018.
Chandan Gupta was killed in an attack by religious extremists on a Tiranga Yatra in Kasganj on January 26, 2018. Initially, a case was registered against 30 people. However, Asim Qureshi and Naseeruddin were acquitted. Those convicted in the case include Wasim, Naseem, Zahid alias Jagga, Bablu, Akram, Taufiq, Mohsin, Rahat, Salman, Asif, Nishu alias Zeeshan, Khilan, Wasif, Imran, Shamshad, Zafar, Shakir, Khalid, Faizan, I. Shakir, Hitler alias Asif Qureshi, Aslam Qureshi, Shawab, Saqib, and Amir Rafi. They were taken into judicial custody and sent to jail.
One of the accused, Munajir Rafi, appeared in court through video conferencing from jail. The court issued an arrest warrant against another accused, Salim, for not appearing in court. Accused Salim, Wasim, Naseem, Mohsin, Rahat, Bablu and Salman have also been convicted under the Arms Act.
