KPA Majeed, state general secretary of the Muslim League, said that the central agency itself should conduct a thorough investigation into the fire in the secretariat. The fact that pro-CPM workers were present at the time of the fire adds to the mystery of the incident.

There has been a conspiracy to destroy the evidence. It is not a trivial matter that the fire broke out at the very time when the important files were requested by the NIA. This incident is as mysterious as the claim that the CCTV was set on fire by lightning. The NIA has not yet handed over the CCTV footage of the secretariat in connection with the gold smuggling case. This is evidence that the government is afraid of investigation. KPA Majeed said that the same fear was the cause of the fire.

The state government has appointed an expert panel to look into the incident and asked it to submit the report within a week, while the crime branch will also probe the matter. “A special team headed by Disaster Management Commissioner Kaushik has been appointed to probe the technical reason behind the fire that broke out in the secretariat, and to file the report within a week,” the chief secretary’s office said in a release. The crime branch team will be headed by ADGP Manoj Abraham.
