New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal will remain in jail in the liquor case. The Delhi High Court did not grant bail in the case registered by the CBI. The court directed to approach the trial court. The court also held that the arrest cannot be said to be illegal.
Earlier, Kejriwal got bail in the case registered by ED. But it was not possible to go out because of the pending CBI case. Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued that the CBI had made a precautionary arrest.
Earlier, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal on a petition challenging the ED’s arrest. The bail was granted by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Dutta. The court left the legal issues in the case for consideration by a wide bench.
The Bench examines the validity of Section Nineteen of the PMLA Act. The court verdict said that it does not go into the merits of the case and that since he is the Chief Minister of the state and has been granted bail before, now bail is being granted. But Kejriwal could not come out of jail as he was in custody in a case registered by CBI.
On March 21, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam case. He was later granted interim bail for 21 days by the Supreme Court. The court verdict was a setback to the ED’s argument that Kejriwal should not be granted bail. On May 10, the Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal for 21 days for the Lok Sabha election campaign. He returned to jail on June 2 after his bail expired.
