BJP minister Usha Thakur has said that madrassas are a breeding ground for terrorism. Madhya Pradesh Minister Usha Thakur’s communal remarks came after the Assam government decided to close madrassas and Sanskrit study centers. They also alleged that all the militants who studied in the madrassa had turned Jammu and Kashmir into a terrorist factory. They say that the complete progress of the society should be ensured by merging the madrassas which are not able to maintain nationalism with the existing education system.
Earlier, Usha Thakur had hailed Godse, the assassin of Gandhi, as a ‘nationalist’. Prior to this, they had made several communal statements. Meanwhile, Assam Education Minister Himanta Bishwa Sharma had recently announced that all madrassa and Sanskrit schools run by the state government would be closed by November this year. Himanta Bishwa Sharma had said that public money should not be allowed to be spent on religious education.
But Muslim clerics have come out against the government’s decision to close all madrassas currently operating in the state. The clergy also demanded that the government think twice before finalizing the decision.
