Nabeesa murder case: Accused sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 2 lakh

Palakkad: In the Nabisa murder case in Mannarkkad, the Mannarkkad Scheduled Caste-Scheduled Tribe Special Court Judge, Jomon John, sentenced the accused to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh. The convicts are Thottara Padinjarethu Basheer (45) and his wife Faseela (36), who are the grandson and granddaughter-in-law of Nabisa’s daughter.

Nabeesa was murdered on June 23, 2016. The case alleges that Nabeesa, who had arrived at her relative’s house in Nottamala, Mannarkad, was taken to their rented house in Nambiyamkunnu, Mannarkad by Basheer and Faseela, where she was murdered by mixing poison in her food and then forcibly pouring the poison into her mouth.

It is said that the body was taken in a car the next morning and dumped in the Chettikkadu area of Aryambavu Road. The Nattukkal police registered a case of unnatural death. A suicide note and Nabeesa’s phone were found in the bag near the body. The suicide note in this led to the murder.

Relatives and locals informed the police that Nabeesa could not write. Basheer and his wife had previously been thrown out of the house following an argument over the loss of gold ornaments from the house. The charge sheet states that the accused planned the murder out of resentment over Nabeesa telling her relatives and others about the theft of the gold and to avoid raising suspicions about the disappearance of Basheer’s mother’s gold. Fazila was previously convicted in a case of attempting to murder her father-in-law Mohammed. She was sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Rs. 500,000 in that case. She was later released on bail while serving her sentence.
