Delhi: MP and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that in Nagpur, toilet water is being purified and sold and is earning Rs 300 crore annually. Water purification plants have been set up at several places under the limits of the Municipal Corporation. The Union Minister added that in all cities, if the wastewater is reused and used for industries, solid waste management and liquid waste management will be better.
He said that the first such project was implemented in Mathura, UP. There, the treated water after cleaning the sludge was sold to Indian Oil’s Mathura refinery for Rs 20 crore. He said that the project was completed on a 40-60 partnership basis, with 40% being funded by the government and the remaining 60% by investors.
There was 90 MLD of sludge in Mathura. When I was the water supply minister, a project was implemented with 40% from the government and 60% from investors. We sold the water purified from the sludge to the Indian Oil Refinery in Mathura. It is said that the water is sold for Rs 25 crore per year, he said.
