Nehru’s Letters Highlighting Anti-Ambedkar Sentiments Become a Setback for Congress

The current topic of discussion is Nehru’s letter, which reveals the extent of the Congress’s animosity towards B. R. Ambedkar. The Congress’s animosity towards Ambedkar did not start yesterday or today. The Congress has been pursuing policies to suppress Ambedkar since Nehru’s time.

Congress is continuing its political exploitative efforts in the name of Ambedkar. The other day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had lashed out at the Congress and the Nehru family. Amit Shah also said that he is a member of the party that has never insulted Ambedkar. During the period of 1947-1952, when Jawaharlal Nehru was the interim Prime Minister, when the country had not even had a general election and the Constitution had come into force only a few days after it came into force, Nehru brought the first constitutional amendment in the country. Nehru’s action, which led to criticism from even the President and the Lok Sabha Speaker, was once again brought up for discussion in the Lok Sabha by Prime Minister Modi.

Even after Nehru, the family kept trying to rewrite the Constitution itself to override Supreme Court verdicts. Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency in the country to prevent the Supreme Court verdict from being implemented. At that time, she passed a special constitutional amendment that said that no one could go to any court against the Prime Minister, embarrassing India’s democratic institutions in front of the world.
