The Central Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in Kerala till August 20. Isolated showers are also possible, the warning said. An orange alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.  A yellow alert has been declared in Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Alappuzha districts.

Kottayam and Ernakulam districts, which received heavy rains in the last few days, have been warned to be extra vigilant. Fishermen are also advised not to go to sea as strong winds are likely. The Central Meteorological Department has warned of strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph in the Arabian Sea off the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep till August 2.

In the first week of August, low pressure is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal. The Met Office has forecast more than normal rainfall from August 2 to 20. At the same time, with the heavy rains, the fear of floods has increased. The floods of the last two years were due to heavy rains received from August 8 onwards.
