PM Modi lauds woman for reviving dried lake in Madhya Pradesh

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat, he talked about water conservation and praised Babita Rajput, who lives in Bundelkhand, Madhya Pradesh and led over 100 women to cut a mountain to solve the water crisis in her village.

After this, Babita Rajput has thanked PM Modi. The 19-year-old woman, who is a second-year student of the Bachelor of Arts course, from Agroutha village in Chhatarpur district said she never dreamt of such recognition and that she would work now work harder towards water conservation.The women in the village dug through a mountain and connected the pond to the canal. Babita Rajput became their inspiration in carrying out the mammoth task. More than 100 women, in collaboration with an NGO that works in the field of water conservation, created a path by cutting about 107 meters long mountain, which is now filling the water in their village pond.

Last year, the village received rains only twice, but the lake had enough water for the needs of residents following the efforts made by Rajput and other women, some locals said. The villagers lauded Rajput’s efforts towards easing their water woes.
