Working towards preparing 1 lakh Covid frontline workers: PM Modi launches customized crash course programme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched six customized crash course programme for COVID-19 frontline workers under Skill India via video conferencing that aims to skill and upskill over one lakh “Covid warriors” across the count. “We are working towards preparing 1 lakh frontline workers in the country,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The launch commenced the programme in 111 training centers spread over 26 states.

PM Modi said the crash course will be completed within two to three months. The frontline workers will be immediately available and will act as a ‘trained sahayak’ to assist in the present arrangements and reduce the burden. The programme will also bring new employment opportunities for the country’s youth. To further enhance the preparedness of the country to meet the challenges ahead, a massive campaign to prepare about 1 lakh frontline “Corona warriors” is being started in the country. The training will be imparted to them in six customised job roles namely home care support, basic care support, advanced care support, emergency care support, sample collection support, and medical equipment support. The course has been designed as a special programme under the central component of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 3.0, with total financial outlay of Rs.276 crore.

Highlighting the efforts of ASHA, ANM, Anganwadi and village health workers, Modi acknowledged that they have played a huge role in successfully running the vaccination campaign in remote, hilly and tribal areas thereby preventing the spread of infection in villages.
