Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to the Malayalis on Kerala Piravi. In his message, he stated that the people of Kerala are hard workers and that the state is renowned for its natural beauty and heritage. He added that the state should continue to achieve further progress.
“Happy Kerala Piravi! This state is celebrated for its mesmerizing geography, vibrant heritage, and hardworking people. People from Kerala have made their mark worldwide in various fields. May the people of the state continue to achieve progress in the coming times,” the Prime Minister noted.
On November 1, 1956, the princely states of Malabar, Kochi, and Travancore merged to form Kerala. Today, Kerala comprises 14 districts, 20 Lok Sabha constituencies, and 140 assembly constituencies. Malayalis around the world celebrate Kerala Piravi Day today. This year’s Kerala Piravi comes at a time when the state is amidst by-elections.
Kerala was formed nine years after India gained independence. According to the Indian government’s decision to reorganize states on a linguistic basis, the princely states of Travancore and Kochi, along with the Malabar region of the Madras Presidency, were merged on November 1, 1956, to create the state of Kerala, where Malayalam is the primary language. Based on this, November 1 is celebrated as Kerala Piravi Day.
