Rajashthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot met Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi at Delhi in Rahul Gandhi’s residence, on Friday amid speculation of a Cabinet reshuffle in Rajasthan. The meeting lasted for almost an hour. The immediate outcome of the meeting could be expansion and reshuffle of the Ashok Gehlot Cabinet to include several loyalists of Pilot.
For the second time in a week, Gandhi met Pilot on Friday. AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too joined in the deliberations. Pilot’s first meet with Rahul Gandhi involved discussions concerning the cabinet reshuffle in the Ashok Gehlot-led government. CM Ashok Gehlot during his meeting had put forward the idea of a possible cabinet reshuffle. He has proposed to include some of his trustworthy MLAs besides suggesting political appointments to various boards and corporations in the state. This decision to reshuffle the cabinet has been pending for more than a year considering the disputes between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot. Sources familiar with the development said the cabinet reshuffle is likely to happen in the first week of October. A senior Congress leader had said certain promises were made to Sachin Pilot when he was wooed back into the party. It’s been more than a year since then and though many from his team have switched sides, it’s more of a matter of words given by party high command. While there was speculation that Pilot could be made an AICC general secretary and given charge of an Assembly election-bound state, sources close to the former Deputy Chief Minister said he is not really keen to move out of Rajasthan.
