Sevabharathi’s Mobile Cremation Unit ‘Chithagni’ Now Operational in Chooralmala

To bury the dead bodies of those who died in Wayanad, what will the orphans do without a home, they do not know where they have lived for so long, they do not know where they have been together, the heirs, the place where they lived and the lost hands, Sevabharati is ready to bury the bodies of those who died in the landslide at Wayanad Churalmala, Sevabharati’s mobile cremation system, Chitagni Chooralmala. Due to the incessant rains, not only the rescue operation but also the burial of the recovered bodies are being hampered.

Seva Bharati’s Chitagni is the solution to this. It is a fully LPG powered unit. The cremation can be completed in about 2 hours. The special feature of this scheme is that one can cremate one’s own relatives in their own homes with dignity, following all the traditional rituals and giving due respect to the love given to them while they were alive. .The public acceptance of this project has been overwhelming.

For the economically disadvantaged Malayalis in Kerala, it is very difficult to cremate the body in the traditional manner after the death of close relatives and loved ones. There are so many people that it is almost impossible to prepare a pyre for cremation. It is difficult to prepare a pyre according to custom in the case where the house located in two or three cents does not even have a sufficient yard. The second reason is the proximity of many houses in places like colonies where houses are close to each other and places that get flooded during monsoons. Christian communities sometimes have insufficient space in the church to bury the dead according to religious tradition and they have also used Seva Bharati’s cremation system.

RSS and Rashtriya Seva Bharati are active in Churalmala Mundakai area where the landslide occurred. Swayamsevakars reached the incident site around 8 am and engaged in service activities. Help desk was started at Mepadi. Relief operations are being coordinated.

Two ambulances of Seva Bharati and Peep are on duty. Many dead bodies were recovered by Swayamsevak. Many lives were saved from the mud. Pashassi of Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Mananthavadi prepared lunch for hundreds of people and brought it to the place. The cremation is also conducted at night. The Seva Bharati activists are also helping another culturing unit, the Ivar Mutt, to conduct the cremation.

Northern Kerala region campaign of the Sangh. Vinod, Northern Kerala Pranta Sahakaryavah P.P. Suresh Babu Kozhikode Division Karyawah Rupesh came to the place and gave necessary guidance for the work. Swayamsevaks from the Nilgiri district of Tamil Nadu region visited the injured in the hospital and those in the relief camp, prepared food for the night and brought it to the place.

Meanwhile, another painful incident is the mass burial of dead bodies in the Mepadi graveyard. 152 bodies have been found so far. The dead bodies of about 30 people were cremated. All of them were identified late yesterday evening. Even recognizing loved ones who were gone in a moment was a very painful sight. Many have not recovered from the impact of the disaster. Those who escaped from the first landslide and moved to another place were affected by the subsequent landslides. More than thirty of them were buried together in the cemetery.
