Supreme Court allows Hindus to continue worshiping at Jnanvapi Temple

New Delhi: There is no stay for Pooja in Jnanvapi. The Supreme Court rejected the petition filed by the mosque committee seeking to stop the puja performed by Hindus. The court said that Muslims can enter the Jnyanvapi from the north side to offer namaz and pray, while the priests of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust can enter from the south side to perform pooja in the vault. The petition was heard by a bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.

The southern vault within the Jnanvapi complex houses idols and shrines of the deities worshiped by Hindus. Pujas started after Hindus were allowed to worship here. Questioning this, the mosque committee approached the Supreme Court. The main demand of the mosque committee was to stay the puja vidhis.

But the Supreme Court was unwilling to stay the Allahabad High Court order that allowed Hindus to worship and ordered the status quo to continue. The Supreme Court has informed that the final argument on the petition will be heard in July.
