Taliban Warns India Against Military Presence In Afghanistan

Taliban has warned India against playing a military role in Afghanistan. On the other hand, the Taliban appreciated India’s humanitarian and developmental efforts in Afghanistan such as building the Salma Dam, roads, and other infrastructure projects in the country.

An Indian delegation participated in a Taliban meeting in Doha. “There were reports about Indian delegation meeting our delegation, but I can’t confirm that. According to my information, a (separate) meeting hasn’t happened but on Friday we had a meeting in Doha, in which an Indian delegation also participated,” Taliban spokesperson Muhammed Suhail Shaheen was quoted as saying by ANI. He also addressed India’s support to the Afghanistan security forces warning that the ‘fate of military presence in Afghanistan was an open book’ for everyone to see. India had recently joined Qatar and several other countries after a regional conference and declared that there will be no recognition of any military takeover of Afghanistan. The countries further called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.

According to Qatar, China and Pakistan were among the countries who said they won’t recognise any violent takeover in a separate meeting on August 10. With the Taliban’s takeover, several incidents of attacks on minority communities have been coming to the fore. Recently, the Taliban has removed ‘Nishan Sahib,’ the Sikh religious flag from the roof of a gurdwara in the Chamkani area of Paktia province in eastern Afghanistan. Addressing the incident, the Taliban spokesperson claimed, “that flag was removed by Sikh community themselves.”
