Thalassery Court to Decide on Bail Plea of PP Divya in Kannur ADM Death Case Today

Kannur: The Thalassery court is expected to deliver its verdict today on the bail plea of PP Divya, who has been in remand for 11 days in the women’s jail in Puzhakkal in connection with the case related to the death of Kannur ADM Naveen Babu. The order will be issued by Thalassery Principal Sessions Court Judge Nisar Ahmed.

Divya argued that she has cooperated with the investigation and requested bail, asserting that the allegations are intended to serve a good purpose. The defense admitted in court that a farewell meeting conversation could have been avoided, yet claimed there is circumstantial evidence of ADM accepting a bribe. However, both the prosecution and Naveen Babu’s family opposed the bail request. Divya has been remanded in Puzhakkal Women’s Jail for 11 days, with her remand period ending on Tuesday. If bail is denied by the district court, Divya plans to approach the High Court.

The verdict on Divya’s bail plea follows strict disciplinary actions taken by her party. The CPM downgraded her party membership from full to primary membership after allegations of abetment to suicide were filed against her. Divya, previously a member of the Kannur district committee, faces this decision today amidst mounting party disciplinary measures.
