Markus City, which was built illegally in the foothills of Wayanad, is again in discussion. Markus City in Kotancheri Panchayat is on the other side of the Meppadi Sahya mountain range where the great tragedy happened. About 100 acres of plantation land has been converted in violation of the Land Reform Act, and the massive constructions and Markus City have been carried out on 300 acres. The misuse of land in Kotanchery will affect the Wayanad mountain peaks as well.
This 1000 acres in Kotanchery Panchayat has been given a pattayam as a garden under the Land Reforms Act. This land should not be used for non-garden purposes under any circumstances. If it is used in such a way, the government can seize it as surplus land.

A Sharia City with an emphasis on Islamic studies and the Arabic language; shopping malls; It is also home to a commercial city with Shariah-compliant star hotels and an international school.
But criticism and criticism are not against this. More than 1000 acres of plantation land has been transferred and the law has been violated. As it is also the valley of Wayanad, the land is of great importance and has been converted into a township.
When Markus’ Knowledge City was built, the panchayat had given a stop memo. Yet it was overcome and built. The Kotanchery Panchayat investigated the illegal construction in Markus Knowledge City several times but was not ready to take any action and stop the work. In April 2021, Markus Knowledge City authorities applied to the Panchayat for permission to build a building for a company called Digital Bridge International. The engineering department then inspected the site and found the construction illegal and denied permission. Then last November, the Knowledge City authorities applied again. The hill was built without even getting the preliminary permission. When the mountains were laid down in Marka City, none of the officers dared to even reach that way.
Meanwhile, on January 19, 2022, a multi-storied building built on a hill without even obtaining preliminary permission collapsed, injuring more than 17 people. This was a huge structure that was planted without permission. The panchayat came and inquired and ordered to stop the works. But again, the ruins of the collapsed building were removed and a new complex was built in violation of all laws. But there was no action.
Now the thousand acre land of Knowledge City is on the other side of the Meppadi hill where the Wayanad disaster took place. A poor man cannot fill a field to build a house. If a hut is built on the garden land, the authorities will not give the building number. Electricity will not be provided. Will tear it down. In that position, Knowledge City has spent thousands of crores on 1,000 acres in violation of the Land Reforms Act. Nobody says anything. No one has any complaints.
