Mumbai: Indian Navy’s warship INS Brahmaputra has sunk. Officials said the fire broke out during maintenance work at a naval dockyard in Mumbai. The Navy said a junior sailor was missing and a rescue operation was on. Officials said the multi-role frigate caught fire while it was being refitted at a naval dockyard.
The ship’s crew brought the fire under control by Monday morning with the help of firefighters from the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. Measures including sanitization tests have also been completed to assess residual risk.
The search is on for the missing naval officer after the accident. The Indian Navy has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The indigenously built Brahmaputra was commissioned into the Indian Navy in April 2000.
