In a shocking case of a junior doctor’s murder and sexual assault at RG Kar Medical College in West Bengal, the accused, Sanjay Roy, has been sentenced to life imprisonment. The court ruled out the death penalty, stating that the case could not be considered as an exceptionally rare one. The sentencing was delivered by the CBI court in Kolkata.

Sanjay Roy, the accused, denied the charges in court, claiming that he was innocent. Before delivering the verdict, the court heard the accused’s statement, and it was clarified that the guilt had been proven. Roy was found guilty last Friday. The brutal murder, which shocked the conscience, took place on August 9, 2024. The body of the 31-year-old trainee doctor was found the following morning on the fourth floor of the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.

Post-mortem examination revealed severe injuries to her internal organs. However, doubts were raised regarding the state’s initial actions, as there was a 14-hour delay in registering the FIR.
