Following the controversy surrounding the film Empuraan, another Malayalam film, Ottakkomban, starring Union Minister Suresh Gopi, is now facing uncertainty. A wave of complaints has reportedly been submitted to the Union Home Minister from Kerala, raising concerns over a serving central minister acting in a film, especially in light of the ongoing Empuraan controversy.
Empuraan has triggered an unprecedented crisis in the Malayalam film industry, with allegations that the film contains anti-national remarks. As a result, strong actions are being taken, including ED raids at the offices of producer Gokulam Gopalan.
Amid this backdrop, some political groups argue that a Union Minister should not be associated with a film that could potentially tarnish the image of the central government. There is growing pressure on Suresh Gopi to step away from his acting career while serving in public office. Sources suggest that formal letters have already been sent to both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, urging intervention in the matter.
