Pakistan has announced a naval exercise near its coast in the Arabian Sea, with reports suggesting it may also conduct a missile test. Meanwhile, India’s aircraft carrier INS Vikrant has moved into deep sea waters, according to national media reports.
Following India’s diplomatic retaliation, Pakistan will convene a meeting of its National Security Committee today. The meeting, called by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, will be attended by key cabinet ministers and senior security officials. Meanwhile, a massive manhunt is underway for the terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack. Security has been tightened across Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the incident. The decision also follows gunfights between terrorists and security forces yesterday in Baramulla and Kulgam.
In India, an all-party meeting will be held in Delhi at 6 PM today under the leadership of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Leaders from all opposition parties, including the Congress, have been invited. Rahul Gandhi, who cut short his U.S. visit, is also expected to attend the meeting.
Meanwhile, India has directed Pakistan’s senior diplomat Saad Ahmad Warraich to leave the country. He was issued a notice citing his persona non grata status. Similar notices were issued to Pakistani military advisers declared unwelcome in India.
In response to India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty following the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan called the move immature. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said India has not provided any evidence implicating Pakistan and that an appropriate response will be given. Pakistan is also reportedly preparing for a missile test off the Karachi coast and has officially announced naval exercises in the Arabian Sea near its shores.
