BRICS summit, PM heads back to Russia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for Russia to participate in the BRICS summit, which is being held in the city of Kazan. Today, the Prime Minister is expected to attend a dinner hosted by President Vladimir Putin. Reports suggest that Modi may also meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the summit.

The BRICS summit will take place in Kazan on October 22 and 23, with representatives from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa in attendance. President Xi Jinping is already present at the summit, though it remains unclear whether a formal meeting between Modi and Xi will take place. Prior to the summit, India and China had reached an agreement on patrolling the Ladakh border.

This marks Modi’s second visit to Russia this year. Earlier, he visited to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit, where he was also honored with Russia’s highest civilian award, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle.
