The central government is planning to give e-rickshaws to more than one crore cycle rickshaw drivers. For this, loans will be provided to the poor at affordable interest rates. Apart from this, the government is going to change the rules to give ownership of e-rickshaws. With this decision of the government, people will get cheap travel for the metro, bus base, railway station etc. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways started three and a half years ago on the e-rickshaw scheme for cycle rickshaw drivers.

According to the feedback received by the ministry, the registration of e-rickshaws in Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura, Maharashtra (except Nagpur), Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Goa has been negligible in previous years. 1,50,000 in Delhi, 1.25 lakh in Bengal and lakhs of illegal e-rickshaws in Assam are running on the roads. The government is going to provide loans to the poor at a cheaper interest rate of 4% to remove the occupation of the mafia on the e-rickshaw scheme.

Central government will soon make rules

The government will soon make rules related to loans so that e-rickshaws worth one to one and a half lakhs can be provided to the poor. Officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said that one crore poor people will be given loans to provide e-rickshaws across the country. It is the effort of the government that the person who runs an e-rickshaw will be the owner, that is, he will have the right to run an e-rickshaw in his name. New rules will also be made for this.
