India evacuates 75 Indian nationals from Syria, where uncertainty prevails after the rebel group overthrew the government. The evacuation was coordinated by the Indian embassies in Damascus and Beirut, following an assessment of the security situation.
Among those evacuated are 44 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that they would be returning to India on commercial flights. The Ministry also stated that it will continue to closely monitor the situation, advising Indian nationals still in Syria to contact the Indian Embassy in Damascus.
The Ministry emphasized that the safety and security of Indian citizens abroad remains the government’s top priority. After the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) took control of Syria’s capital, Damascus, the Syrian government collapsed. Following the HTS takeover, President Assad reportedly left the country and sought refuge in Moscow, according to Russian state media.
