Chennai: A landslide near the Thiruvannamalai temple in Tamil Nadu has left seven people feared trapped under debris. The incident occurred when a portion of the hill behind the temple collapsed.
Rescue operations, led by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are underway. According to a Fire and Rescue Services official, large boulders and soil have buried houses at the base of the hill, leaving 5-7 people unaccounted for.
Thiruvannamalai, one of the regions affected by persistent heavy rains following Cyclone Fengal, witnessed this tragedy at VOC Nagar near the Annamalaiyar Hill. Authorities had evacuated some residents following earlier warnings of landslides in the area. However, a group of individuals, reluctant to leave, remained in the region.
