Kochi: A financial fraud case has been filed against film producer Joby George, accusing him of taking ₹5 lakhs from a complainant, promising a business partnership and ownership of a resort in Kumarakom. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Prakash Kuruvilla from Kidangoor, and the investigation is underway by the Kaduthuruthy police.
According to the FIR, Joby George gained the complainant’s trust by misleading him with fake emails and claiming to have connections with prominent businessmen. He promised to make the complainant a partner in various businesses, including buying a hotel in Kumarakom, and took ₹5 lakhs as an advance.
While the complainant was in the U.S., Joby George allegedly transferred ₹4.4 crore to his account multiple times. When the promised projects failed to materialize, Joby George returned ₹3 crore. However, he did not repay the remaining ₹1.4 crore or make good on his promise to include the complainant in the projects, leading to the fraud charges.
