Former Chief Minister of Bengal and CPM leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee passes away

Former West Bengal Chief Minister and CPM leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee passed away. He was eighty years old. Age-related diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), have been a concern for some time. The news of the death was confirmed by CPM State Secretary Muhammad Saleem. He was the Chief Minister of Bengal for 11 years from 2000 to 2011. Jyoti Basu’s successor became Chief Minister.

Buddhadeb was born on March 1, 1944 in North Kolkata. He joined the CPM in 1966. In 1968 he became the secretary of DYFI West Bengal state unit and in 1971 as a state committee member of CPM. He was also elected to the state secretariat in 1982. 1984 Became a permanent invitee to the Central Committee. He was elected to the Central Committee in 1985.

He became a member of the Politburo in 2000. In 1977, he became the State Minister of Information and Public Relations. In 1966, he became the Chief Minister of State Home Affairs.
