Reopening of schools postponed to 10 due to rising heat in Tamil Nadu. It was earlier announced that it will open on June 6. But day by day a huge increase in temperature is recorded in the state. In this situation, the opening of the school was shifted to 10. The director of education informed that the government order is applicable to all government and private schools.
In the Union Territory of Puducherry, the opening of schools has been postponed to June 12 due to heatwave.
Meanwhile, the education department has yet to renew the accreditation of 20 percent of the 7,000 private schools in Tamil Nadu. The recognition of 1500 schools was not renewed citing various deficiencies. Private schools have to submit application for renewal of approval every three years along with documents like building licence, fire certificate and sanitation certificate.
In 2016, it was made mandatory for school buildings to obtain a regularization certificate from the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) or the Local Planning Authority (LPA). These certificates should be submitted to the Department of School Education for renewal of recognition of the schools.
However, thousands of private school buildings constructed 20-30 years ago with the consent of local bodies could not get certificates from DTCP or LPA. This is why recognition is uncertain.
