Islamists Target and Attack Hindus in Bengal

The situation in West Bengal has turned increasingly dire, especially in Murshidabad, one of the most violence-affected districts. Around 500 Hindus have reportedly fled from Dhulian in Murshidabad, crossing the river to take refuge in a school in Vaishnavnagar, Malda. The victims have alleged that Islamist mobs attacked their homes, set them on fire, and caused widespread destruction. They have appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure their safety.

In response to the escalating violence, the central government has deployed over 1,600 security personnel in the affected areas of West Bengal, including about 300 Border Security Force (BSF) troops. Violent protests broke out on Saturday in districts like Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas, Hooghly, and Malda. Rioters torched vehicles and caused extensive damage to shops and homes. So far, three people have lost their lives and over ten police officers have been injured. The police have arrested more than 150 individuals in connection with the violence.

To further control the situation, five more BSF companies have been deployed in conflict-hit areas of Murshidabad. Twelve more arrests were made, bringing the total number of detainees to over 150. Despite reports of relative calm in areas like Shudhi, Dhulian, Samsarganj, and Jangipur, prohibitory orders remain in place, and internet services have been suspended. Following a High Court directive on Saturday, central forces have taken charge in many sensitive zones.
