Justice Yashwant Varma removed from judicial duties

New Delhi: Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Varma has been relieved of his judicial duties following the discovery of unaccounted cash at his official residence. The decision came after Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna constituted an internal inquiry committee.

A circular issued by the Delhi High Court stated that, in light of recent developments, Justice Yashwant Varma has been removed from judicial responsibilities with immediate effect until further orders. Cases previously assigned to his bench have now been transferred to a new bench. The Supreme Court Chief Justice had instructed the removal of Justice Varma from judicial duties.

The incident took place on March 14, during the Holi festival, when fire department officials arrived at Justice Varma’s residence following a fire outbreak. The officials reportedly discovered a stash of unaccounted cash, leading to further investigation. The Supreme Court later released video footage and an inquiry report on its website, prompting Justice Varma to deny the allegations.

Amid the dramatic developments, the Supreme Court also made public the investigative report and video evidence compiled by Delhi High Court Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya, adding further weight to the case.
