Kerala By-Elections Scheduled for 13th, Election Dates Announced for Maharashtra and Jharkhand

New Delhi: The Election Commission has announced the election dates in Kerala. Voting will take place on November 13 in Wayanad, the Palakkad Lok Sabha constituency, and the Chelakkara Assembly constituency. The counting of votes will be conducted on November 23 across all locations, as stated by the Chief Election Commissioner in a press conference.

In Maharashtra, voting will occur on November 20, while Jharkhand will hold elections on November 13 and 20. Elections will be held for 288 seats in Maharashtra and 90 seats in Jharkhand. In the previous elections, Maharashtra had a single-phase election, while Jharkhand had five phases.

As expectations rise for the Maha Yuti alliance, led by Eknath Shinde, to return to power in Maharashtra, the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, which includes Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), and NCP (Sharad Pawar), is calculating its chances of regaining power. They believe that their momentum from the Lok Sabha elections will support their return.

In Jharkhand, the current ruling party is Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Following Soren’s arrest in the land Kumbhakarna case in January, he resigned, and senior JMM leader Champai Soren was appointed as Chief Minister. Once released from jail, Hemant Soren reclaimed power, while Champai Soren later joined the BJP.

The term of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly ends on November 26, while the term of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly will conclude on January 5 next year.
