Kerala Government withdraws Police Act amendment

The Kerala Government withdrew from the Police Act amendment. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in a press release that further action will be taken after the discussion in the assembly and the amendment will not be implemented for the time being.

Controversy erupted after Kerala governor Arif Mohammed Khan signed the Kerala Police Act Amendment ordinance envisaged by the LDF government in the state to prevent cyber attacks against women and children.  The CM said that a detailed discussion in this regard will be held in the Assembly and further steps will be taken in this regard after hearing the views of all parties.

The Chief Minister said that the state government had decided to amend the Kerala Police Act on account to curb the widespread propaganda campaigning on and off social media questioning the personal liberty and constitutional dignity of the citizen. Many of the affected has committed suicide. Many of the media heads also demanded legal action against to be taken against this. In this context, the Chief Minister explained that the Police Act should be amended.
