The number of devotees coming to participate in the Mahakumbh Mela is increasing with each passing day. In the past month, 50 crore devotees took holy dip at the Kumbh Mela. At the beginning of the Mahakumbh Mela on February 11, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had predicted that more than 45 crore devotees would visit the Sangam city and take holy dip. But the current figure has surpassed this figure.
By February 14, the number had crossed 50 crore. There are 12 more days and one more Amrit Snan left. Officials said that it is expected to rise to 55 to 60 crore by the end of this.
Yesterday was Magha Purnima day. Extensive celebrations have been organized at the Kumbh Mela on the occasion of Magha Purnima. On that day alone, 73.60 lakh people took holy dip at Triveni Sangam.
The highest number of people attended the Kumbh Mela on Mauni Amavasya. More than 8 crore people attended the Kumbh Mela on that day. More than 3.5 crore devotees and more than 2.5 crore devotees attended on Makar Sankranti and Basant Panchami respectively. More than 2 crore people attended on other days like January 30 and February 1. More than 1.7 crore people attended on Pausha Purnima.
The government has made tight security arrangements as the crowd is increasing. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was monitoring the events from Lucknow. Senior officials including those from the state have reached the spot and are monitoring the situation. The Maha Kumbh Mela will end on February 26.
