Maharashtra Train Accident: Narendra Modi Expresses Condolences, Railways Announces Financial Assistance

New Delhi: The Indian Railways has announced financial assistance of ₹1.5 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the train accident in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. According to the Railway Ministry, the compensation will be handed over to the deceased’s family members. Additionally, ₹50,000 will be provided to those seriously injured, and ₹5,000 to those with minor injuries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the tragic accident, which claimed 13 lives. He described the incident as heartbreaking and conveyed his solidarity with the grieving families. In a message on X, he stated, “I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and assure all necessary medical assistance.”

The accident, which has left over ten passengers seriously injured and admitted to Jalgaon Civil Hospital, is currently under investigation, according to the Railways.

The collision occurred when passengers of the Pushpak Express, panicked by rumors of a fire onboard, pulled the emergency chain to halt the train and alighted onto the tracks. Tragically, they were struck by the Karnataka Express, which was passing on the adjacent track.
