Mumbai: Action has been taken in the case where threats were made to eliminate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Kamran Khan (29), a resident of Chunabhatti, who issued the threat via a call to the Mumbai Police control room in November 2023, has been sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment by the court.
The sentence was given for offenses including disturbing public peace and creating fear. The court observed that threats against top leaders cannot be justified and are considered serious crimes. It also noted that following the threat against the Prime Minister, the entire police force had to initiate heightened security measures.
Although the defense lawyer argued that the accused suffers from mental illness, the court stated that no evidence was submitted to support the claim.
