Massive Setback for Arvind Kejriwal as Evidence Emerges in Liquor Policy Scam; Approval for Prosecution Granted

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has reportedly been granted approval by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena to prosecute Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case linked to the liquor policy scam. Preliminary evidence against Kejriwal suggests significant involvement, according to reports. This development is seen as a major blow to the INDIA alliance, as one of its prominent leaders now faces serious corruption charges.

The move comes as Delhi prepares for upcoming elections, marking a challenging phase for Kejriwal after AAP’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP has long accused the Kejriwal government of corruption in the liquor policy, making it one of their key allegations.

The ED, which is investigating money laundering allegations related to the scam, had arrested Kejriwal on March 21. Though he was granted bail in September, the agency had previously mentioned Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia as key conspirators in its chargesheet. Sisodia, who was accused of enabling corruption in the distribution of bar licenses, spent 18 months in jail before securing bail in August.

As the legal proceedings in the liquor policy case intensify, sources suggest a fast-tracked trial is on the horizon. With the Assembly elections approaching, the agencies are reportedly preparing to ensure Kejriwal faces trial, potentially even imprisonment, ahead of the polls.
