Palakkad: The court will consider the bail application of Chenthamara, an accused in the Nenmara double murder case, today. The bail application will be considered by the Alathur First Class Judicial Magistrate Court. The petition states that the case is without eyewitnesses and the arrest was made based on hearsay.
The accused needs a chance to prove his innocence. The defense has also informed the court that they are ready to accept the bail conditions. However, the investigation team will inform the court not to grant bail.
‘I don’t have to escape. What I did was wrong. I should be punished. I am giving my statement of my own free will’ – this was Chenthamara’s stance when she started recording her confession.
The court asked if he was aware of the consequences of pleading guilty and whether he wanted to talk to his lawyer. Judge S. Sivadas granted time. The court reconvened after 10 minutes. He was asked again if he was ready to plead guilty. Chenthamara replied that he was not ready. Following this, the accused filed a bail application.
Chenthamara, who killed Sajitha, a native of Pothundi, in 2019, murdered Sajitha’s husband and mother on January 27 after being released on bail in the case.
