One Nation, One Election: Priyanka Appointed to Joint Parliamentary Committee

Priyanka Gandhi has been appointed as the Congress representative in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to discuss the One Nation One Election constitutional amendment. Congress leader Manish Tewari will also be present.

This will also be a national recognition for the representative of the people of Wayanad as a maiden MP.Priyanka made her place when the list of Congress nominees for the Joint Parliamentary Committee to study the ‘One Nation, One Election’ Constitutional Amendment Bill introduced in Parliament came out.

Congress is the largest opposition party in Parliament. As such, there will be more than 3 members from Congress. A total of 31 members will be in the Joint Parliamentary Committee to study the ‘One Nation, One Election’ Constitutional Amendment Bill.

The bill is the first step in the ‘one nation, one election’ electoral model put forward by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. The bill proposes changes to five articles of the Constitution to allow federal and state elections to be held simultaneously.
