Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Kuwait today on a two-day visit. It is after a long 43 years that a Prime Minister will visit Kuwait. Today, Prime Minister Modi will meet the Emir of Kuwait and the Crown Prince. Modi will also meet the Indian diaspora in Kuwait.
There are one million Indians in Kuwait. The largest expatriate community in Kuwait is also from India. Therefore, Modi’s visit will further warm the relations between the two countries.
India did not condemn Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990. This led to a rift in India’s relations with Kuwait. The two countries had not had any political exchanges for a long time. Issues such as energy, hydrocarbons and business ties will be discussed during Prime Minister Modi’s visit, said an official from the Ministry of External Affairs.
