The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted raids at the warehouses of e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart. Substandard products that did not meet the required standards were seized. The raids, conducted recently, aimed to prevent the sale of low-quality goods through electronic platforms, as stated by the National Consumer Affairs Ministry.
Authorities revealed that, in addition to substandard products, unauthorized toys, kitchen appliances, and electrical equipment were also being sold through these e-commerce platforms. The inspections took place at warehouses in Lucknow, Gurugram, and Delhi. Apart from Amazon and Flipkart, a raid was also carried out at Tech Vision International, a company distributing unapproved products.
At Amazon’s warehouses in Lucknow and Gurugram, hundreds of unauthorized toys, hand blenders, aluminum foils, metallic water bottles, PVC cables, food mixers, and speakers were seized. A raid was also conducted at the Flipkart warehouse in Gurugram, operated by Instacart Private Limited, where unapproved stainless steel bottles, toys, and speakers were confiscated.
BIS officials seized 7,000 unauthorized electric water heaters, 4,000 electric food mixers, 95 room heaters, and 40 gas stoves. Due to safety concerns, BIS certification is mandatory for selling such products. Authorities stated that products without a valid ISI mark or license number may not have undergone necessary quality checks and could pose safety risks. BIS officials further revealed that numerous substandard products are being sold through various e-commerce platforms
