Salem: Five people died after a private bus fell into gorge in Tamil Nadu’s Erkkad. 63 people were injured. Twenty people were seriously injured. The incident happened on Tuesday night. Karthi (37), Muneeswaran (11), Hariram (57) and an unidentified person from Salem died.
A private bus carrying 60 passengers from Erkkad bus stand to Salem fell down at the 11th bend. A few passengers jumped out of the bus. The rest fell under the bus.
Ten ambulances arrived from Salem and Erkkad and took the injured to the Salem Government Hospital. Salem Collector Vrinda Devi and Police Commissioner Vijayakumari reached the spot and led the rescue operation. Many of the injured are in critical condition.
