Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan resigns, likely to contest Lok Sabha elections

Hyderabad: Tamilisai Soundararajan resigned as Telangana Governor and Puducherry Lieutenant Governor. Reports suggest that the BJP leader may contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

62-year-old Soundararajan, who was sworn in as the second governor of Telangana state in November 2019, was given the additional charge of leftanantu governor of Puducherry in February 2021. They may contest from the lone Lok Sabha seat in Puducherry.

BJP feels that Soundararajan will have more connection with the people of Puducherry. There is also speculation that she may contest one of the three seats in Tamil Nadu, including the Thoothukudi seat held by Kanimozhi of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Soundararajan contested this seat in the 2019 elections but failed. In 2009, he contested the Chennai (North) seat against DMK’s TKS Ilangovan and lost.BJP feels that Soundararajan will have more connection with the people of Puducherry.
