Protests are raging in the country against the Farms law. Farmers set fire to a tractor in a high-security area near India gate in protest. The protest was led by the Youth Congress. Five people have been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

A group of about 20 people set fire to a tractor during a protest in front of the India gate this morning. The incident took place around 7.30 am. Very few policemen were on the scene. The fire was put out by the fire brigade.

As protests continue in the country, the President has signed into law the Agricultural Trade and Commerce Bill, the Agrarian Empowerment Protection Bill, and the Essential Commodities Amendment Bill. Today there are Raj Bhavan marches in all the states under the leadership of the Congress. The move by the farmers’ organizations is to intensify the struggles, including the train blockade.

In Punjab, the Chief Minister has directly taken up the struggle. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has said that he will go to great lengths to protect the interests of farmers. The Shiromani Akali Dal left the NDA in protest of the Modi government’s anti-farmer policies. States including Kerala are preparing to go to court against the law.
