The Union Cabinet has approved the Waqf Amendment Bill. The bill was approved based on the Joint Parliamentary Committee report presented in Parliament on February 13.
Sources said that the cabinet approved the amendments to the bill in a meeting held on February 19. The Centre is trying to introduce the bill, which aims to streamline the registration of waqf properties, in the second half of the budget session, which begins on March 10.
The cabinet has accepted 14 of the 23 recommendations made by the JPC. It is learnt that the amended bill with the reforms will be presented when the House meets on March 10. The JPC submitted its report on February 13. The committee was chaired by Jagadambika Pal. The JPC consisted of 16 NDA MPs and 10 opposition MPs.
