Kollam: In the gruesome murder case of Vijayalakshmi, who was lured to a house in Ambalappuzha and killed, the accused, Jayachandran, has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. The Karunagappally police arrested Jayachandran in connection with the crime and shifted him to Kollam District Jail. Following legal proceedings, the case will be handed over to the Ambalappuzha police since the murder occurred there.
Vijayalakshmi, a native of Karunagappally, had been missing since November 6. She was reportedly called to the house in Ambalappuzha, where the accused murdered her over suspicions of her having another relationship. Her body was later exhumed from a site near Jayachandran’s residence. After postmortem procedures, the body was handed over to her relatives and will be laid to rest at her home in Kulasekharapuram, Kollam, once her brother arrives from Odisha.
Jayachandran, a native of Karoor Puthuval in Ambalappuzha, was taken into custody by the Karunagappally police. He and Vijayalakshmi had known each other for over two years after meeting at Azhikkal Harbour, where Jayachandran worked. Vijayalakshmi, who had separated from her husband, was living alone on rent in Kulasekharapuram. The two were reportedly in a close relationship during this time and were involved in several financial dealings.
Neighbors alerted Vijayalakshmi’s family after she went missing, leading to a police complaint. Vijayalakshmi’s sister confirmed that there had been disputes between the two in the past, with Jayachandran suspecting her of deceit and financial exploitation. The local community is shocked by the brutality of the crime, especially as Jayachandran was known to keep a low profile and avoid close associations.
