Allegation of Poison in Delhi’s Drinking Water: Election Commission Rejects Kejriwal’s Response

Delhi: The Election Commission has rejected Kejriwal’s reply to the allegation that the Haryana government has poisoned Delhi’s drinking water. The Commission has again given Kejriwal time till tomorrow to present concrete evidence. Kejriwal alleged in a press conference that the move is to arrest him.

Kejriwal had leveled serious allegations against the BJP in the final lap of the campaign that the Haryana government was poisoning the drinking water supplied to Delhi. The allegation was made in the backdrop of reports that the ammonia content in Delhi’s drinking water was increasing. Kejriwal gave a blunt reply to the Election Commission, which sought an explanation from Kejriwal on the BJP’s complaint, saying that he spoke on the basis of facts.

Expressing deep dissatisfaction, the commission observed that there was nothing factual in Kejriwal’s reply. It has then raised five questions for reply. What poison did the Haryana government add to the drinking water? In what quantity was it added? Where was the poison found? Which engineer of the Delhi Water Board found this poison, where and when? Has the Water Board taken any action to prevent the poison from mixing with the drinking water of Delhi? The commission has asked for a reply by 11 am tomorrow.

The commission asked in a warning tone whether such allegations made by a person who was the Chief Minister should be understood and whether it is an attempt to divide the people. Kejriwal, who called a press conference with bottled drinking water, reiterated his stance. The Chief Election Commissioner, who has made his political leanings clear, mocked him and said that it would be better to contest the elections.

A Haryana court has issued a notice to Kejriwal asking him to appear on the 17th. The BJP is also planning to file a complaint in Delhi. The statement is to strengthen the BJP’s election campaign against Kejriwal. In short, the poisonous remark has backfired on Kejriwal.
